Every Fourth Wednesday of the month, BPW Virtual Chapter will host an informative presentation and facilitate lively discussions around the issues of BALANCE.  Water touches upon every aspect of our lives, transcending borders, scales, and sectors. Despite being a finite resource vulnerable to external stresses and indispensable for supporting other essential resources, such as energy, water remains underappreciated and undervalued. Using case studies and the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals for background, this program will explore the systemic and foundational role of water in our lives.

Hyon K. Rah, LEED AP, ENV SP, EcoDistricts AP, is a systems-based planner with interdisciplinary background in architecture, renewable energy, and water resources management. She helps real estate and energy developers, investors, owners, and communities formulate and implement sustainable and resilient water, energy, and built environment strategies that improve their bottom line. Communicating in five languages, she has provided technical, strategic, and educational support to portfolios and projects in over 30 countries, navigating different cultural and regulatory landscapes.

As adjunct professor at the University of the District of Columbia (Washington, DC) and Goucher College (Baltimore, MD), Hyon devotes time to teaching courses on sustainability and resilience and mentoring future professionals in sustainable development and historic preservation. In 2020, Baltimore County Executive Board appointed her to the County Design Review Panel for her expertise in resilience. She is a board-appointed member of Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments (MWCOG)’ Air & Climate Public Advisory Committee, which provides advice on local and regional governments' air quality, climate change, and energy policies.

Hyon received her Master of Architecture from the University of Michigan and her Master of Science in water management and hydroinformatics through the European Commission's EuroAquae Programme, a consortium of five EU-based universities. She is principal and founder of RAH Solutions (https://rah.solutions), a woman owned small business (WOSB) based in Washington, DC.
